3c509B locking w/"re-entering the interrupt handler"

Under normal loads all seems well with my 3c509B, SMP 2.0.35 kernel with
2.0.36pre6 (3c59x.c patch segment only). Under network stress, the box
eventually starts spilling "eth0: Re-entering the interrupt handler"
messages infinitely at the console and is otherwise unresponsive.

Anybody know what this is? Or if there's a fix?
