Experimental Results

Two key elements of the Beowulf Parallel Workstation design are critical to the performance characteristics of the system as a whole. These factors are the sustained usable bandwidth of the network and the raw throughput of the disks. Two experiments were devised to measure the efficiency of the network and disks on the original Beowulf prototype and these were repeated on the Beowulf Demonstration system. The results for the prototype system are presented in Figures 2 and 3 and those for the demonstration system in Figures 4 and 5.
